The new standard IEC 60598-1:2024, after its release on 2024-11-0, CENELEC, the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization, released EN IEC 60598-1:2024 A1:2024 on December 20 of the same year.

IEC 60598-1:2024 version update, the main changes that need to be focused on assessment:
1. New clause 4.3.4, IEC standard requirements for batteries/EDLCs (supercapacitors)
2. Amendment to section 6.3.8, add requirement "For luminaires powered by batteries/EDLCs that are only designed to be powered batteries/EDLCs and not designed to be connected to any charger power source, the rated input power does not need to be marked.
3.Amendments to Clauses 6.3.22 and 7.24, photobiological safety is assessed in accordance with IEC 6471-7:2023, where the blue light hazard part may be optionally tested in accordance with either IEC 62471-7 IEC TR 62778;
4.Revise clause 6.4.14, modifying the warning for luminaires with X, Y or Z connections;
5.Revise clause 6.4.18, modified the warning statement for luminaires with non-user-replaceable light sources and added an optional use a pictogram;
6.New clause 6.4.24, which adds the requirements for warnings and pictograms for repairable, non-user repairable and nonrepairable controllers;
7.Revise clause 7.8 to add standard requirements for mechanical switches, electronic switches and on-line switches, add requirement for 10000 for mechanical switches, add exemption content “Not applicable to switches with power less than 15 W and current less than 0.5 A operating in ELV circuits.
8.Revise clause 7.14.1 and Table 22 (14.4.3): introduce requirements for suspending with a magnet;
9.Amend clause 7.14.2 to read as follows: For special cables or wires (such as those with additional metal or non-metallicres twisted together or such materials incorporated in the cable construction), if the conductor size is such that the requirements of the first paragraph of this clause cannot be met for the maximum stress a pull test for 1 hour at 15 times the force normally experienced by the cable in service shall be required;
10.New clause 7.31.5, additional requirements for lighting fixtures for SELV-output controllable control devices;
11.Revise clause 7.32 to add requirements for SPDS and SPCs;
12.Amend Clause 8.4, the maximum allowable output current in the test for the applicability of conductors with reduced cross-sectional area from .5A to 2A;
13.Revise clause 9.2.10, which modified the requirements for internal grounding terminals used for looped or through-wired connections;
14.Revise clause 12.2.1, adding the requirement to disconnect the voltage protection device in clause 7.32 before the insulation resistance and electrical tests;
15.Appendix W, additional requirements for luminaires using batteries, has been added.
