The EU has published the new toy standard EN 71-3:2019 A2:2024.

      On December 4, 2024, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) approved and released the toy safety standard EN71-3:2019 A2:2024 "Toy Safety - Part 3: Migration of Specific Elements". It is expected come into effect in 2025 and will replace the current version EN 71-3:2019 A1:2021

Significant changes

According to the CEN information, the standard is expected to be approved by the European Commission no later than June 30, 225, and the conflicting national standards (EN 71-3:2019 A1:2021/prA2 and EN 1-3:2019 A1:2021) will be replaced at the same time; at that point, the standard EN 1-3:2019 A2:2024 will be given the status of a mandatory standard at the level of the European Union member, and it will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union, thereby becoming a harmonized standard under the Toy Safety Directive 2009/8/EC.

Standard content update

 The dewaxing step was deleted from the pre-treatment process. Supplementary and amended the composite material testing method in A1 standard. Adjusted testing methods for liquid and powder materials. Revised the rationale for the limits of CrIII and CrVI.


In addition, the European Committee for Standardization has approved several harmonized standards for toys:
