On July 28, the European Union 2023 new regulations on batteries and waste batteries, supplementing Directive 200898EC and Directive 20191020, replacing the original Battery Directive 200666EC.The new battery regulations 2024 new requirements such as harmful substances in batteries and CE labeling to take effect on August 18, requiring battery-related companies to pay attention to export compliance.
Mercury, cadmium and lead requirements for new battery regulations
1:Mercury and its compounds:
Batteries shall not contain more than 0.0005% mercury by weight, expressed as metallic mercury, whether installed on electrical appliances, light transport vehicles or other vehicles.
2:And its compounds:
Portable batteries, whether mounted on electrical appliances, light transport vehicles or other vehicles, shall not contain a cadmium content (expressed as cadmium metal) exceeding 0.002% by weight
3:Lead and its compounds:
1.With 2024 from 18 August, portable batteries, whether or not installed in electrical appliances, shall not contain more than 0.01% lead, expressed in metallic lead.
2.Prior to 18 August of the 2028, the restrictions set out in point 1 do not apply to portable zinc-air push-button batteries.
