Among the UK technical regulations related to toys, the primary legislation is The Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011. It sets out safety and quality requirements as well as conformity assessment procedures. All toys placed on the UK market must comply with this UK regulation first. Technical details are defined by harmonised standards EN 71 series and EN 62115. The EN 71 series specifies requirements for physical properties, flammability, labelling and other aspects, while EN 62115 covers safety requirements for electric toys. In addition, toys must comply with other UK regulations such as UK-REACH, UK-POPs and UK-RoHS.
Scope of Application
Applicable to all toys: products designed for or intended to be played with by children under 14 years old, whether or not specifically designed or intended for their use.
